doesn’t arrive overnight: it takes shape gradually, like an order set in motion that travels routes before reaching its destination. The journey isn’t linear; it has firm stretches, pauses, and obstacles. In a context where rights are under constant threat, preserving what has been achieved is a collective and sustained effort. With the certainty that every action counts and brings delivery closer — from responses that provide support, the changes that open up paths, and the strength of collective effort, to the evidence that guides, the presence that gains ground, and the resources that make it possible to continue — we present the achievements of 2025: a journey through the actions that contributed to reproductive justice in Mexico. This package is our contribution.
We documented 159 cases and provided accompaniment to 90 of them across 9 states in the country: abortion access denial 73, abortion criminalization 3, obstetric violence 10, maternal death 1, rights violations in the context of assisted reproductive techniques 2, and violations of the right to care 1. We followed up on 245 cases from previous years and closed 105 comprehensive accompaniments.
We carried out technical and legal work with local organizations and decision-makers, and continued our national strategy to challenge the laws that criminalize voluntary abortion. These actions were part of the sustained effort that allowed us to expand reproductive rights in various states of the country.
We participated in multilateral spaces and worked in coordination with other civil society organizations, with the objective of continuing to position reproductive rights on the public agenda, share lessons learned, and contribute to the development of standards.
We produced a report that accounts for the current state of abortion in Mexico, and updated other publications that address the progress and challenges in accessing this health service. We collaborated with organizations from Latin America to bring the arguments used in the abortion decriminalization processes in three countries in the region closer to the public.
We promoted communication initiatives with innovative approaches aimed at transforming narratives around reproductive rights. We adapted to changes in the digital ecosystem and implemented strategies to strengthen and expand the reach of our content.
Our work was made possible thanks to the Ford Foundation’s Office for Mexico and Central America, Levi Strauss Foundation, and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for providing their donations through flexible funds for the general support of the organization.
